BBBBXXI - SATURDAY Run List & Signups

Ken if you need any information on Heartbreak let me know , I'll be at headquarters starting Thursday

Anything to make your day more fun, if your asking about Bronco equipment, a communication radio is a great idea, I use a Ham radio on the runs, tools to air down your tires for more ride comfort, and chairs for lunch
The chairs are a good idea, and I have a tailgate table as well, or just a small folding one will do the trick. It all depends on how much you want to "rough it" vs. weight/room in your vehicle. As for radios, the Baofeng BF-F8HP is an inexpensive dual band VHF/UHF radio you can pick up from Amazon. It's a hand held that should work well "on trail".

I don’t hav the time now to buy one of those radios, but I do have a GMRS radio, not sure if anyone else has that.

Well, maybe someone on the Clark’s grade run will have one, if not no big deal, I’ll just stay in the middle

BroncoDon you'll be fine. Having a radio isn't a requirement, and we'll keep an eye on the ducks in our row LOL. I would suggest investing in a 2-way VHF radio for future runs though.

Little ducky….. thanks. Very true we all look out for each other. Hope to everyone soon and also meet new people.

Ok, quick reminder for Sat's Wildhorse Meadows trail run. Here's a Google Maps link to where we will be meeting at 9AM. Once we are all there and ready to go, the first leg of our trip will be to head through town to the 2N27 trailhead. Here's a link to the GPX file that you can import into OnX, GAIGPS, etc. for 2N27 (Sand Canyon). We will continue on 2N27 until we reach 2N93 (Widhorse Meadows) where we will turn south and follow 2N93 (WildHorse Meadows) south until we reach Hwy 38. Here's a link for the Wildhorse trail's GPX file. Once we reach Hwy 38 we will head over to the trailhead for Coon Creek. You can find that on Google Maps here. Coon Creek is normally an up and back trail, but SCB has found an alternative to that which makes it a loop back up to Hwy 38. Here's the GPX file that outlines that route. Once we reach Hwy 38 you can grab that to take you back to Big Bear, or where ever you want to go. My guess is that the first part (2N27 and 2N93) i.e. Sand Canyon and Wildhorse Meadows will likely take 2.5-3 hours, maybe a bit more depending on how often we stop to enjoy the views and take pictures. The second trail looks like it's about 1.5 - 2 hours in length, again maybe more. So, that's a total of 5 hours+. The plan is to make this a leisurely pace and enjoy the scenic views. Right now it's looking like somewhere in the neighborhood of 20 Broncos on this run! That's going to be a LONG train. Please be aware that if you make a wrong turn, those behind you will follow, so keep a close eye on the Bronco in front of you and behind you, and if you have a radio, I'll be going updates on turns, and warning about stops, etc. Before you make a turn, make sure that the Bronco behind you sees you . The plan is to stop at a number of spots so that people can get out, take pictures, enjoy the beautiful scenery, etc. This will also give use a chance to "condense" the train a bit if it get too spread out. At some point, we will probably take a bit of a longer break so people can have a chance to grab a bite of lunch. In either case, please be sure to bring along at least some water and some trail snacks, you never know for sure how long you're going to be out there. These are trails where you don't have to air down, however, some say that the ride will be "smoother" if you do. Your call on that, but I'll make sure to give people a chance to air down/up. Please be patient if you aren't, it can take some folks a few minutes to get through that process.

I'm pumped about BBBB in general, and this run in particular, and can't wait to meet all of you IRL (In Real Life)!

Unfortunately, life got in the way and I'll miss the Wildhorse run. I hope to meet you all some time in the future.

Reading Joerg's post above I'm reminded that the #1 Rule on trail rides is to make sure that the rig behind you sees where you went. If you get to an intersection and you don't see them well enough to be sure that they see which way you went then you need to stop and wait until you're sure of that. Radios help, but with 20 rigs you're going to be spread out over a mile or more and sometimes the radio is more confusing than helpful. I ran sweep on last year's Saturday Pioneertown run. There were times when our fearless leader was at LEAST 3 miles ahead of me and more likely 5+ miles ahead. Merely saying "Left at the intersection" on the radio isn't going to work because the guy 2/3's back in the line of vehicles could be looking at a different intersection where everyone in front of him went right. He goes left and before long you have people scattered from hell to breakfast.

EVERY SINGLE TIME that a trail run that I was on where we lost people and had to find them was because someone didn't make sure of the person behind them. Maybe they didn't know to do it, maybe they had brain fade, maybe the person following had brain fade, but it has always been because the person in front didn't make sure that the person behind followed them. Radios help, but for them to be most effective you should know the name of the person behind you. Then you can call them directly on the radio if you need to. There are a lot of blue or red or green or yellow Broncos out there. Can't call out of the radio "blue Bronco behind me, you're going the wrong way" without creating even more confusion, but if you can say "Hey Clark, we went to the right at that last turn" you'll save a lot of time and headache. I hope the FNG's see this post so that they know what to do.

Sorry to hear you won't be able to make it!
That's too bad but sometimes things don't always go the way we plan them , until next time
THIS WILL FUNCTION AS OUR SIGNUP SHEET! Please indicate your Run Choice for Saturday of Bronco Bash, June 11, 2022, by casting your "vote" in this poll. This vote is not binding, you may change your choice at any time. This just gives us an idea of how many people are interested in this run, and if it needs a run leader or can be left as a DIY run. Please note the TIME and STAGE area for each run. The TIME noted is the time the run leader will leave the staging area for the trail, so please show up in plenty of time to be ready to leave at that time, including any necessary bullshitting, tire kicking, etc. Show up at the staging area already FUELED UP and ready to go.

*These runs leave at 8:00 instead of the customary 9:00 due to the distance covered. Details on the various trails, along with maps, descriptions and difficulty notes, can be found HERE. A list of Staging areas with their exact locations can be found HERE.

If you would like to volunteer as a Run Leader please let me (@Dusty ) know, and I'll put you down. If you would like to lead a run but on a different trail or time than those listed above, let me know and I will add it to the list/poll. Volunteering as a Run Leader is MUCH appreciated, as it helps out those who are new to So Cal Broncos and Bronco Bash, who might not already be situated with where to go and what to do at the Bash.

We will do our best to solicit and designate run leader volunteers for the runs that have the most interest. But if there is no run leader designated by the run date, it will be a "DIY" run, meaning that whoever shows up will need to figure out among yourselves where to go and what to do. In that case it's best to carry maps, GPS, etc., and have a general knowledge of the trail before you set out to run it. If nobody in the DIY group has been on the trail or has proper navigation equipment and the confidence to find your way, please abort and find something else to do.
As the leader of Saturday's John Bull run leaving at 9:00 from Van Duesen Canyon Rd. I would like to limit this to a total of 10 Broncos be it Early or New due to the difficulty of the trail and it being Saturday that will be busy with other off road enthusiasts, and please have a good mode of communication in your Bronco , I see 8 interested but history has ended up being more rigs ,thanks for understanding, feel free to contact me at bogshotrods@charter.net or 951-741-5024 if you have questions

Thanks for sharing that! I’m going to make sure to emphasize that with the group before we leave today!
