Yup, I have one. I'll be on both SCB-4 and GRMS-20 so no worries.

Joerg,

First, thanks for your (and your beautiful wife's) lead on the trail and outstanding organization. It was a memorable experience with a bonus carnage score of 1 (flat tire :) ).

As a lesson learned from the communications on the trail, I suggest using in the future the GMRS channel frequency. Most "older" BaoFeng UV-5R can transmit on GMRS channels or can be "reset" to them.
For example: if you using GMRS - 20, set your BaoFeng UV-5R to freq. 462.675. This was you do not need to re-transmit broadcasts only once using only one of your radios.
That also will let other people pick up small FRP radios from Walmart or Big-5 like Midland GXT1000 or Uniden.

Thank again.

Joseph,

I knew this was going to be an issue, and tried to use both the traditional SCB frees and GMRS (did you get a copy of the handout?). But I have to admit after a while I got a bit lazy with repeating everything. Next time I'll take a pole and see what kind of radio the majority has, and stick with that.

BTW for those who are looking for a very capable hand held you can get a dual band BEOFENG BF-F8HP on Amazon for a pretty low price ($70 right now https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00MAULSOK?psc=1&ref=ppx_yo2ov_dt_b_product_details). That's the raidio I had, and it works pretty well.

Anyway, lesson learned, thanks for the feedback, it's the only way I can improve.

I learned that "too many radios" lesson a while back. Then it was 3 radios, cb, FRS, and 2M. I quickly lost track of what I'd said to whom and vowed to never, ever do that again.

While GMRS isn't a bad choice, I feel that 2 Meter ham is the best choice. When the buy-in cost is pretty much the same.......
