BBBBXXIII - Sunday alternate route off the mountain, Mill Creek, Clark's Grade to Greenspot.

Looks like you're JUST gonna miss the 330 closure. https://kbhr933.com/big-bear-news-k...altrans-this-monday-thru-thursday-7am-to-5pm/ But I would prepare an alternate route, just in case since they are saying that schedule could change.
I want to exit down by Greenspot or Mentone even, and playing/photos at the bottom near the river/creeks. AJ should be coming along too, so I'll have two people with two different mapping programs and any recon picked up that weekend too. Besides, it's about the adventure, as long as we can exit onto hwy38 or Highlands, it'll work out.

I lived on hwy 18 in Arrowbear for five years during a few of these repaving jobs, they don't work on the weekend due to tourism and traffic to BB, it would be an absolute mess.

I think that there's a "B" route that's more like what your describing that we used last year.

The "Overland to Big Bear Route A" doesn't come out on highway 330. Neither does Route B, for that matter (though the upper section of Route B isn't currently usable due to the closure of Wildhorse Meadows). I know the route AJ prefers does use Highway 330, as his route starts at 1N09 (City Creek Road) at it's western terminus, on the 330. But my Route A starts (or ends, in the direction @Arrowbear Rider will be running it) at the end of Alder Creek Road at Greenspot Road in Highland, just down the road from the Seven Oaks Dam.

Hey @Arrowbear Rider if you want to go in the creek for photos at the end of the trail, just know that there's no legal access to the Santa Ana River bed in that area, below the dam. But I have a good photo spot I like to use a couple of miles away, it's actually on Mill Creek right above Mentone. Let me know if you want a waypoint for it.

I was just looking at the imported GPX file, and it shows coming out/in at 330. Although, there's part of it that shows going down Adler Creek, but it doesn't complete that section. Alder is the way I went last year down the mountain and loved it! either way, there shouldn't be an issue on Sunday. 330 as of now, shows open for the entire time that Bash is running. Unless you want to head up from out side of the world on 330 on Wed. like I'm going to.

If that's what that file is rendering, it's F'd up. I'll re-export it from ONX and replace it when I get a chance. Thanks for the heads up, not sure how that got screwed up. @Arrowbear Rider I see the version of it on Google My Maps is correct, you can view it from this link until I get the ONX file fixed: https://www.google.com/maps/d/u/0/edit?mid=1DnADWA_Hwv0i5M9tKj47K9R2ZggCrk8&usp=sharing

oops, I stand corrected, I took Thomas Hunting Grounds down into town last year, not Adler Creek. We had a great big group of Bronco's on that run last year, AND we got to listen to a Tela-Novela on the radio as well! Anyway, I just wanted to grab a GPX file to give me a head start on my Clark's Grade run, and I saw that story about 330. Sure looks like it's not going to interfere with Bash, unless you're coming up from my side of the world on Wednesday.

Good to know about the river, it was decades ago and over by Forest Falls that I think we were at. We'll talk on Friday at the event.

Yeah, the spot I mention is in the direction of Forest Falls (which is on Mill Creek, not the Santa Ana River). It's about 2 miles up highway 38 from my house so it's a convenient place to get some cool shots (for me anyways). These are from there:

@Dusty , I'm working on my Clarks Grade run which overlaps some of this. Do you want me to convert it to a down the mountain run for you in OnX? Right now all the directions assume you're coming up the mountain. Should just take a minute for me to do, and I'm already messing about in OnX.

Sure, if @Arrowbear Rider thinks it will be helpful for him. I've updated my own files for Route A.

Hey @Arrowbear Rider I've fixed the glitch in the route file that @BadSquatch pointed out. I uploaded it as a new resource here on the forum at: https://socalbroncos.com/forum/resources/overland-to-big-bear-a.12/ (note that the old URL you used above is now dead)

It can also be viewed directly in ONX: https://socalbroncos.com/forum/resources/overland-to-big-bear-a.12/

Or in Google Maps: https://www.google.com/maps/d/u/0/edit?mid=1DnADWA_Hwv0i5M9tKj47K9R2ZggCrk8&usp=sharing
Thanks Dusty.

Shelby Hall is the one with the OnXmaps app and is leading the route, I'll follow behind her and learn from a pro on leading. I'm not worried about leading, but when someone with experience steps up, it's best you be humble and say Hell Yes!
