I'm sure it's easy if you read the directions LOL. But it's not "intuitive" for someone who hasn'tI definitely want “key in” options.

I have both, and they seem to run the same software, so keying in the freq. should be the same. Just make sure you are set to frequency mode. You can toggle back and forth between frequency and channel mode with the button labeled VFO/MR which will toggle back and forth. If you leave your radio in frequency mode all the time (it will remember what you set it to last), then you can always just type in the 6 digit frequency. Note that if the freq. you are trying to enter only has 5 digits then just add a zero at the end. If you want to watch a video there are a number of them out there, but this one makes it pretty simple. That’s good to know…. My buddy had the 5R and like Arrow said, my head was spinningbut I definitely want “key in” options. Thanks to amazons return policy, I’m sure I can swap these out and I’ll grab the 82HP one instead!! Thanks guys
Rules schmules…this is So Cal Broncos, the rules don’t apply to us!I have both, and they seem to run the same software, so keying in the freq. should be the same. Another issue you might run into is that depending on when your UV-5R or the like was manufactured it might be locked out of GMRS, but that won't be a problem if you are looking to program Ham (2-meter) SCB frequencies. If your radio is locked, you can likely unlock it with the procedure in this YouTube video. Some of the newer radios actually have an unlock item in the menu, and some simply can't be unlocked ... supposedly ... but I would try the procedure in the video first.
Note that the UV5-R is not part 95 accepted, and therefore using to transmit on GMRS channels is not strictly within the FCC's rules. But since I'm not the FCC, I'll leave it up to you in terms of what you want to do. BTW, just listening isn't a violation.

Thank you! I keep finding the posts…. Then losing them… and on and onThe below video is super helpful with programing any of the above radios using CHIRP software and BadSquatch's frequency list (Thank you Joerg for the list!).
NOTE: THIS RUN IS FULL. Please choose one of the other runs being offered or set one up yourself. Here are my notes on how to do so.
I'll be leading a run on Friday of Big Bear Bronco Bash, and invite anyone who's interested to join me.
This should be a "Medium" run. I'm not 100% sure on the route we will take yet but it WILL include Horsethief Flats as the main component. We may tack on Tip Top Mountain, and possibly come through Broom Flats and Balky Horse Canyon on our way back, if I decide to return by that route. All of these are rocky/bumpy but not too technical. The only real wildcard will be climbing back up out of Horsethief Flats. It's been many years since I've been down there. The road is steep in places and it may be deteriorated somewhat from the winter storms. There, at least, I believe you will need 4-Low, at least for the gearing if not so much for the traction. But we'll find out together. If we come to anything that looks too gnarly for the group we can divert.
- DATE & TIME: Friday, June 7, 9:00 AM
- TRAIL RATING: Should be Medium, depending on the condition of the trail and whatever else we tack on.
- TRAILS: Horsethief Flats & More (see description)
- STAGING LOCATION: Big Bear Convention Center parking lot at the corner of Big Bear Blvd. and Division Drive. Google Maps LINK
- MAX VEHICLES: 20
- COMMS: SCB-3 (VHF 146.460)
We'll meet at the Big Bear Convention Center. Please be there, gassed up and ready to roll out by 9:00. Bring a lunch, and all the usual gear. Spare tire and the tools to change it, a tow strap and secure tow points at both ends. Plenty of water and/or your hydration of choice. Please make sure your cooling system is working well. If it's a hot day, the climb out of Horsethief Flats can put it to the test. This is mostly meant for my Early Bronco friends. Cooling shouldn't be an issue for the 6G's if driven right.
I'd like to limit the number of vehicles to 20. If you'd like to join me please post up below and include your real name so I have more than just your forum handle. I'll only add your name to the list if you say you are definitely in.

Sshh....I kicked myself off the run and added you, to keep it to 20Dusty,
If there is any space available, I would like to join you on the Friday run. Cheers, Jim Cairns
Thanks Joerg! That allowed me to put my name back on the list@Dusty You can drop my name for the list to make more room since I'm leading that Clark's Grade run on Friday now. I'm really sad to miss this one, next year for sure!
Whew, I thought we'd have to lead ourselves...Thanks Joerg! That allowed me to put my name back on the list
Let's make plans to run Horsethief together some other time. Big Bear is there all year, not just during BBBB![]()
Thanks guys, I’m looking forward to it. I have a place up in Big Bear near the dam and and often looking for new runs. I would like to sometime try my hand on the sand dune near Chocolate Thunder in Johnson Valley with an experienced dune crawler. Thanks Joerg! That allowed me to put my name back on the list

Horsethief Flats run, BBBB 2022
Guess you have to join us on Gold Mountain tomorrow morning as penanceSo sorry to be that guy today. Ended up being nothing, just siked myself out. Wifey drove it and said "it drives fine". Took all the skids off, everything nice and tight. Thanks Rick for letting me borrow your radio, and a special thanks to the OG who followed me out. Hope everyone had a great time and enjoyed one of my favorite trails. I'll get my head on straight before next year
Nah, wifey said no gold mountain this year (the 21 is hers, and seems to be the only one that ever runs). We did it last year and it siked her out pretty good. Super bummed i peeled off today, I love that trail. Always next time. Hope y'all enjoyed it!Guess you have to join us on Gold Mountain tomorrow morning as penance
