Yes put me on listI'll be leading a run on Friday of Big Bear Bronco Bash, and invite anyone who's interested to join me.
This should be a "Medium" run. I'm not 100% sure on the route we will take yet but it WILL include Horsethief Flats as the main component. We may tack on Tip Top Mountain, and possibly come through Broom Flats and Balky Horse Canyon on our way back, if I decide to return by that route. All of these are rocky/bumpy but not too technical. The only real wildcard will be climbing back up out of Horsethief Flats. It's been many years since I've been down there. The road is steep in places and it may be deteriorated somewhat from the winter storms. There, at least, I believe you will need 4-Low, at least for the gearing if not so much for the traction. But we'll find out together. If we come to anything that looks too gnarly for the group we can divert.
- DATE & TIME: Friday, June 7, 9:00 AM
- TRAIL RATING: Should be Medium, depending on the condition of the trail and whatever else we tack on.
- TRAILS: Horsethief Flats & More (see description)
- STAGING LOCATION: Big Bear Convention Center parking lot at the corner of Big Bear Blvd. and Division Drive. Google Maps LINK
- MAX VEHICLES: 20
- COMMS: SCB-3 (VHF 146.460)
We'll meet at the Big Bear Convention Center. Please be there, gassed up and ready to roll out by 9:00. Bring a lunch, and all the usual gear. Spare tire and the tools to change it, a tow strap and secure tow points at both ends. Plenty of water and/or your hydration of choice. Please make sure your cooling system is working well. If it's a hot day, the climb out of Horsethief Flats can put it to the test. This is mostly meant for my Early Bronco friends. Cooling shouldn't be an issue for the 6G's if driven right.
I'd like to limit the number of vehicles to 20. If you'd like to join me please post up below and include your real name so I have more than just your forum handle. I'll only add your name to the list if you say you are definitely in.

Thanks! I would but I haven't lifted mine yet, so I'm only on 33" with just a rear locker, so seemed like I might not be equipped for it.not sure if it is your thing but a few spots remain for john bull
BBBBXXIII Friday John Bull 6-7-24 -Difficult | Archived Threads from Past BBBB's
I will lead a John Bull Run on Friday 6-7-24 running East to West. This trail is listed as difficult so come prepared. Trail info can be found here to determine if this is for you https://socalbroncos.net/john-bull/ Will be meeting at 8:30 AM & departing at 9 AM from the wide spot on Van Dusen...socalbroncos.com
Please see This Post about runs at BBBB. The short version is that So Cal Broncos is not officially "scheduling" any runs. But some individuals are volunteering to lead runs, and we've asked those who are willing to create a thread for the run they would like to lead. This thread we are currently in is the one I created for my Horsethief run. To see any other runs people have volunteered to lead, simply back out to the BBBB sub-forum page (Click Here) and you'll see them all listed there as separate threads. If you don't see a particular trail being offered that you would like to run, on the day you would like to run it, consider putting together a run yourself. I've provided a bunch tips for doing so in This Post. Are there any more runs scheduled yet? I only see this one, which is full, and the Ladies run.
Thanks
Sorry @StuartN90 I missed your question earlier. Yes that radio will work fine. But don't ask me how to key in the frequency when you get there. Read the manual and figure it out ahead of time. People always hand me those UV-5R's and ask me to key in the frequency and I can't figure it out on the spot. For some reason it's just not as simple as clicking the number pad with the digits of the frequency, the way it is with the UV-82HP radios that I prefer. FWIW, I do recommend the 82HP over the 5R. It's a little more expensive but still not bad, at $70. It has a more rugged, "industrial" build quality, and the speaker is a little louder. Like the 5R you can program it with CHIRP but it's easier (for me) to key in frequencies on the keypad. Also you can program the GMRS channels into it too, making it dual-purpose as GMRS and HAM (you can probably do that with the 5R too). I also recommend getting the extended antenna for it.I’m still wrapping my head around the radios situation. Not to go off on a tangent but I have the 8W UV-5R in my cart right now, that will run the frequency you listed, correct?
