USFS Closed Areas in Big Bear: Know before you go to BBBB 2025

Hi All, just wanted to make sure everyone attending this years BBB is aware of the USFS Line Fire closure areas. The Forest Order No. 05-12-52-25-01 Line Fire Closure has been extended due to continued hazards in the area through September 30, 2025.

As part of the USFS OHV program, we patrolled the closure area on 4/19 to document, educate, and provide updates on what work needs to happen to get this area opened up again. Unfortunately it’s not something that will happen in short order and the area will remain closed. Please do not plan any runs from Highland to Big Bear though 1N16, 1N09, 1N54 or any forest roads south of Big Bear Lake. I am providing a link to the order and a MAP so you can plan accordingly. There are still plenty of the most popular amazing runs and camping areas that can be done north, west and east of Big Bear Lake. This should not impact the fun that’s had every year at this event. Most of the runs in this area we see on the way to and from the event.

Forest Order Website: https://www.fs.usda.gov/r05/sanbernardino/alerts/line-fire-closure-order

I will be attending the event and have plenty of OHV physical maps to hand out to attendees. We will also plan a Rigs and Restoration run for those looking to volunteer some time with the Socal Mountains Foundation and help keep or forest roads clean, safe, and open for all to enjoy. This will be an easy run that any rig can do. Stay tuned for details.

If there are any questions let me know.

Is white horse still closed?
If you mean Wildhorse Meadows, that's a good question, maybe @Gotchaa can verify. I was driving up highway 38 yesterday and I saw heavy equipment parked at the south entrance so maybe they've been working on it. It's been closed for a couple of years.

Yea my brother is coming out from Kentucky and he's wanting to run a couple fire road trails. He's just got a newer Silverado so I don't want him on anything more than a dirt road and I remember running Wildhorse Meadows and it being a cool view and super easy

Yeah that would be a good one for a full size pickup, if its open. If its not, the road to Pioneertown would be good. Or any of the Delamar Mountain or Upper Holcomb routes that we've discussed here in the forum. Or you could run the length of 3N16 (Holcomb Valley Road) from east to west, ending up in Green Valley Lake for an ice cream at the store there, then come back on the highway.

Josh,

I'm leading both the Holcomb Valley Rd. run on Thursday and the Upper Holcomb/Delmar Maintain run on Friday. Signups for both can be found here: https://socalbroncos.com/forum/forums/big-bear-bronco-bash.33/

Yes. Sorry about that Dusty. I was referring to Wildhorse Meadows.

2N93 is the forest road, unfortunately it is not open, I ran a patrol to document some road hazards for USFS a couple weeks ago in hopes of getting it open. I am hoping we can get it open this summer, but depends on how soon the work can be done. I don’t recommend anyone attempting to taking this, you will come up along 3 gates that are locked right now on the trail. I’ll post an update if anything changes before Thursday.
