Trip to Bronco Knoll 3/12

Hey Everyone,
Some of us in the 6G community are making a trip out to Bronco Knoll on 3/12. One of our members suggested I cross post it here as well. This is an informal event. We'll post meeting locations, and more intel soon if others are interested. We will likely summit from the east and end up going down the west, which is easier and can accommodate all levels of drivers. If your interested or have done the ride, let me know. We'd love to add others to our trip, or gain from your knowledge.

Cheers,

AJ

Thanks for the invite! Are EB's welcome too? I've been up Bronco Knoll in my 2-door Base. already, and might want to take the '71 next time we go. Not sure yet if we can make it, as we've got events the next two weekends (TDS, then United By Bronco up in Utah) but if everything is still in one piece we'll try to make it :)

Everyone is welcome, it’s informal and the goal is to meet other people with broncos and enjoy a fun day. It’ll be nice if you came, as none of us have done the Bronco Knoll trails yet. I don’t think they’re too hard base on the GPX files, but there’s no supplement for experience in trails.

The climb isn't too difficult but I don't recommend it on the Base 30" tires as they don't give quite enough ground clearance for those low-hanging shock mounts. We were denied on our first attempt and had to come back a couple weeks later, after we installed 35's (33's would probably be OK though too). We used the southeast approach (looks like a turkey claw on the satellite images) which I believe is the easiest approach. The western descent is pretty hairy and would be a difficult climb, but it's a fun and scenic descent (that's how we came down). There are a number of other fun points of interest in the area that can be rolled into the same trip, let me know if you'd like any info on them.

Rough idea or coords of this? I've not heard of "Bronco Knoll" before.

Odd location if google maps has it right. So I checked, Gaia agrees. Not being a 6G'er, what's the back-story on this spot?

Cool,

SO who wants to go? When? Shortfuse lists some interesting spots in the general area, and I've found a few more. I can think of a couple OG'ers who likely know more spots than I do!

I've been all around that set of hills chasing desert racers, but never had the time or a reason to climb up into them.

We just came back, but happy to go again and learn some more trails out there from you guys. I’m going to plan another trip next month as well going through big bear. We got the Bronco bash in June on the calendar which will be fun. 🤙
