Recommendations for an In Tank Fuel Pump

KD6TAV

Eddy / Big Blue
My pump gave out. I have the wild horse 23 stainless steel gallon tank and had the in tank pump that came with the kit. Anyone have any recommendations or non recommendations?? Thanks

No specific recommendation other than go with a quality OEM replacement if you can figure out what the application is that works in there. You also might want to see whether your return fuel is heating up too much on it's trip through the engine bay and back to the tank, as I've heard that really hot fuel can shorten the lifespan of the in-tank pumps. Maybe consider adding an inline fuel cooler into your return line before it dumps back into the tank. I've always used an external pump for my EFI setups and have had good luck plus they're easier to change out if needed.

Thanks dusty. It seems like we are always learning. Found out that the in tank pump that came with the kit is a walbro, a good company from what i hear, but what i didn’t know is the fitech is setup to use PWM (Pulse Width Modulator) which walbro pumps do NOT like and will make them fail prematurely. This PWM is made to help cool pumps by adjusting the voltage to them but some/most pumps like constant voltage not pulsing. The fitech pumps work with both PWF and not. The fitech pump seem to moves more fluid per hour which could help keep fuel cooler… or maybe not. Yes my return line goes thru a inline cooler, which seems to have kept my rig away from vapor lock issues…. before this new tank (4 years ago now) my external pumps seem to fail and were too loud so they haven’t been good to me. Yes much easier to replace. My plan cut a hole in the floor for easy access. Also see about adding a secondary emergency pump on the rail with a few hose adjustment might work. Well could be dreaming but its on my list.

For the FSB I bought a pump from Quantum Fuel. It was a complete upgraded pump/sender assembly built around a Walbro 255LHP pump. As a bonus they're local to me, but the Walbro pump may not work for you. Might call them and see what they have to suggest.
