IMPORTANT! Big Bear Bronco Bash CHANGE of VENUE!

Dusty

I Started This Gangsta Shit
So Cal Broncos OG
This is must-read news for anyone attending Big Bear Bronco Bash XXI, June 9-12, 2022. Please read through all of the information before you panic. We have been thrown a curveball, but we've already gone to Plan B. BBBB should go off the same as it always has, with all of the same fun you've come to expect, but at a different location for this year.

HERE'S THE SITUATION
A few days ago Eddie from the Majestic Moose contacted us to inform us of a problem. There is some sort of construction project that has to happen at the Moose during the time of our event, which will preclude us from being able to host the event there. I didn't ask for details, as Eddie has always been straight with us. This news was very disappointing to hear, but rather than wallow in the circumstances of the problem, we instead went right to work on finding a solution.

HERE'S THE SOLUTION
Eddie was gracious enough to scout around the Big Bear area and try to find a suitable alternative for us, and he located a venue that he thought might work out OK for us. He had already spoken to the management and was offering to start contacting our attendees who had reservations with him, to help with moving them over to the other venue. Steffie and I were still stunned about it so we told him to hold off a few days while we processed the information and looked into things for ourselves, as we were initially unimpressed by what we could see of the place online. So the next day (yesterday), Steffie drove up to Big Bear to get eyes on the place and meet with their management. Her report was favorable, and it turns out the place will probably work out OK for us. We went ahead and pulled the trigger, booking the entire place for BBBB.

THE NEW VENUE
So the temporary home for Big Bear Bronco Bash XXI will be the Wolf Creek Resort (please don't start contacting them directly, before reading through the rest of this information). This place is right in town, which I'm not so sure I like, but it is more centrally located. If you're familiar with the location of McDonald's in Big Bear, this place is right across the Boulevard from it. Facilities-wise, it seems to actually have more lodging rooms than the Majestic Moose, though they are configured quite a bit differently, which I'll get to in a moment. The place has some pretty nice common area amenities to accommodate all of our shenanigans, such as an outdoor event center, pool and spa, horseshoe pits, etc. There is room to park tow rigs and trailers but that area is a bit smaller than we had at the Moose, so you'll need to be a bit less haphazard about parking your shit. There is no room for RV's, and tent camping is not allowed. The good news for our tent campers is that Pine Knot Campground is just around the corner. If you want to check the place out online, their website is https://wolfcreek-resort.com DO NOT BOOK ONLINE, I'll get to that in a moment.

LODGING ARRANGEMENTS
As I said before I think there are actually more rooms and beds there, than we had at the Moose, but they're configured quite differently so there may be some hiccups in getting everyone situated. So here are the rooms they have, all of which are ours as we booked the entire resort for our event (a little later I'll explain how and why we were lucky enough to be able to do that). Note that all of the prices quoted below are for a 4-night stay, Thursday through Monday, and include a 25% discount for our group. I'm not sure if you can take fewer nights (lop off Sunday night) in the Motels, Cabins or Chalets, but I do know that the Wolf's Den requires the 4-night price since we had to book the entire thing.

Motel Block
There is a block of 16 motel rooms that are configured with either two queens or one king bed in each room. If you look on their website you can see some representative photos of these. Yeah it's not the "mountainy" feel of a cabin, but they're nice, and its right there on the resort grounds rather than down the street somewhere. Motel rooms with single King beds are $447 plus tax for the four nights of the event, rooms with two beds are $467 plus tax.

Cabins/Chalets
There are 10 cabins (they call them chalets). Two of them are 2-bedroom cabins and the other eight are studios. I believe each of these have futons or hide-a-beds that can expand the sleeping capacity. The chalets cost $537 plus taxes for the entire event. The 2-bedroom cabins are $657 plus taxes for the entire event.

Wolf's Den
This is a huge lodge that has 11 separate bedrooms, each with their own private bathroom. Wolf's Den also has a huge living area, kitchen, pool table and game room, a nice patio overlooking the pool, etc. There are some photos of the Wolf's Den on their website. The rooms are configured with either two queens or one king bed. Rooms in the Wolf's Den are a total of $447 plus taxes for the 4 nights we've booked it (June 9-13, you can stay until Monday with us). That's only $111.75 per night but you have to do all 4 nights since we had to take the whole building, all or nothing.

WHAT TO DO IF YOU ALREADY HAVE A RESERVATION AT MAJESTIC MOOSE
If you already have a reservation with Eddie, Eddie has offered to help contact each of you and facilitate transferring your reservation over to Wolf Creek Resort. Eddie will be working on that TOMORROW (Friday, April 1). We, and Eddie, want to make sure that those who had already been counting on their room(s) at the Majestic Moose get their situation at Wolf's Den settled first. So if you have a reservation already, speak with Eddie tomorrow (Friday). You may call him yourself if you'd like, rather than waiting for him to call you (you should already have his number). Several of us who are admins on the Facebook group have already made our arrangements, so Eddie will be working on getting the rest of you settled. Note that this may require some compromises, as the cabins are less numerous even though there are actually quite a few rooms across the various chalets, motel block and Wolf's Den. So please be understanding and willing to compromise.

IF YOU DO NOT ALREADY HAVE A RESERVATION BUT WOULD LIKE TO JOIN US AT WOLF CREEK
Depending on how our reservation holders settle in to the various lodgings at Wolf Creek, there *should* be some extra rooms available, based on our best reckoning. If that is the case, I'll let everyone know, and you will be able to contact the resort beginning on Saturday morning to book those rooms. Please, DO NOT use the online reservation system. It will only cause you a headache. We have already reserved the entire resort, so individual bookings can only happen by calling the resort direct, beginning on Saturday, at a special number I will post at that time. Please don't contact the resort directly using any of the numbers on their website.

IF YOU ARE ALREADY BOOKED OFF-SITE FOR BBBB
If you already have accommodations somewhere for the Bash, you may want to look into the location. If you are booked into the Gray Squirrel or Golden Bear because of their proximity to the Majestic Moose, please note that you will no longer be right next door to the Bash. If that is important to you, you might want to consider moving. Wolf Creek Resort is on the other end of town and a few miles away. There are lots of alternative lodgings available closer to Wolf Creek, and closer to the amenities of downtown Big Bear. Of course, you're welcome to grab one of the extra rooms at Wolf Creek, if available, starting on Saturday morning.

So hopefully that's everything you need to know about the change of venue. If there are questions please ask away in the comments below. We will of course be banging the drum about all the other aspects of BBBB the same as we always do. The Saturday night Bash, 12-Pack's Taco Night and everything else we love should still go off without a hitch. But we needed to get this venue situation squared away first. I know this will be a curveball for many of you, as it certainly was for us. But I think we'll all still have a blast!

By the way, I should point out that we are actually quite lucky. Eddie brought this news to us very late in the game, just 3 months before our event. Under normal circumstances it would have been impossible to find a resort that could accommodate us, that wasn't already partially or mostly booked for our dates. But we lucked out in that the Wolf Creek Resort was recently purchased by new owners, and it is currently closed as they are doing some renovations. That's why it's not booked up yet. They will be opening in May, and we'll be one of the first event bookings in there. So big thanks to Eddie for sniffing this one out. We really did luck out with it.

BBBB - Wolf Creek Resort Booking Update!

Hey guys I heard we had a glitch today on getting reservation holders booked in to Wolf Creek so Eddie wasn't able to get you guys situated. He will be heading back over to Wolf Creek in the morning to sort everything out so please just sit tight until then.

For those looking to pick up the remaining rooms, we'll need to push that back a few hours to give Eddie and Wolf Creek the time they need to sort out those reservations. We'll post up and let you know when they're ready to take calls on any remaining rooms. I hope that will be sometime tomorrow afternoon but we'll keep you posted.

Sorry for the confusion. We're rolling with the punches LOL

golden bear cottages or holiday inn which would be better to stay for the bash.

If you'd like to be close to the action, look up the location of Wolf Creek Resort and choose whatever is close to it. I don't know where Holiday Inn is but Golden Bear is pretty far.

Hey all just an update, there are still a couple more reservation holders Eddie is working to sort out. We should have them all situated soon, and then we'll know what's left. Thanks!

Any word on this? I'd love to attend! I just got my Gen 6 Bronco, and this sounds like a great outing!

You're welcome to attend regardless! There are tons of lodging options in the Big Bear Area, and we typically have about twice as many attendees as can fit in the resort we use for our headquarters. We overflow into other resorts, motels, campgrounds, etc. If you read the thread above, you know we were forced into a temporary home this year, which is across town from our usual digs, but it's closer to the center of town so even closer to alternate lodging. It's looking like extra rooms are going to be tight, at Wolf Creek, once the dust settles and all of the existing reservation holders are situated. But I'll try to learn tonight whether that has been completed, and update this thread.

OK, that sounds like a plan, I'll start looking into hotels nearby. One more question and this might not be the right place to ask, but where can I sign up for the different trail runs?

If we do trail signups, you'll see it in these forums when we do. I say "if" because we don't always do signups. And when we do, people largely ignore them anyhow LOL.

For someone new coming in, it might be a bit overwhelming, jumping in without complete knowledge of what to do and where to go each day of the Bash. But we call So Cal Broncos a "disorganization" for a reason. We don't have any committees or officers or hall monitors, and it can be hard herding cats in this group. That said, we will indeed have a list of "suggested" runs, and will do our best to shame people into volunteering to be run leaders. But for the most part, you should think of Big Bear Bronco Bash as more of an ad hoc event. Show up, make friends, and hit the trail with whoever's going to the places you want to check out. That does make it a bit bewildering for those who just show up out of the blue and want to be told what to do. That's why we encourage people to join in on the discussions ahead of time. Make friends in our various online channels (this forum, which admittedly is only lightly-trafficked at this point since it's still fairly new, plus our Facebook Groups and our Email List).

One handicap for the new 6G folks just coming in is that most of our members use the Facebook Groups as their primary discussion channel for So Cal Broncos. But we have two separate Facebook Groups, the original one for all of the classic year models, and the 6G group for the 6G owners. We did that for a reason, and if you see the shit shows most of the 6g Bronco groups turn into, you might understand why. But it has the unintended consequence that the discussion is compartmentalized. And most of the Bronco Bash chatter happens on the Early Bronco group, because that's where most of us have been. So yeah, I guess that makes it problematic for our brand new 6G members to tune in and figure out what's going on, and make friends and plans prior to the event. I'll put some thought into what we can do to alleviate that.

In the meantime, check out the Bronco Bash page on our static website. There's a fairly extensive list of trails with descriptions, photos, route maps, etc. If you've never been wheeling in the Big Bear area, reading through that section will be a good primer. Ignore the button for signups. It's a remnant from last year.

Thanks for the help! I'm in the 6G Facebook group already, so I'll definately keep an eye on that. I know what you mean about 6G groups, the whining about how long it's taking for people to get their Broncos tends to overwhelm any other discussion at times. In the meantime, I'll go check out the static page. BTW, WAY back when I did this a lot (20+ years ago) I spent a fair amount of time running the trails around Big Bear. It will be interesting to see how they have changed!
