Bronco II Ultra4 Build

Hello So Cal Broncos!

Guess I'll start off the Bronco II build thread and hopefully we get more people to chime in under this Bronco gen forum. I'll start off with a little about me then move into my one of many builds. My name is Jacob, most of the OG's here know who I am. I was born into So Cal Broncos, so everyone usually knows of my dad, Dennis aka Wiretec. We have been building all kinds of vehicles since I was born. Our specialty of course is Bronco's. I have also owned every generation of Bronco minus the second gen 78-79, but that's still on my list. I'm currently active duty for the Navy as a diesel engineer, so in my spare time I work on my own stuff and occasionally on friends.

Now for the build. It started out as a 1990 Eddie Bauer Bronco II, v6, manual with an og superlift kit and some 31's. Pretty much clapped out when I got but it did run and drive. Engine had three rebuilds on it but it still was toast. Suspension was completely shot, everything on it was worn out, top to bottom. So I ripped it apart and was originally planning on doing somewhat of a mild build on it. Just your usual stuff, bronco front axle, explorer rear end and an explorer drivetrain. But, I got a little to caried away once I realized how crazy I could make this because almost every bronco that's modified has generally gone two ways. One is your basic bronco width solid axles and the second is widened i-beams/ttb. So I said screw it lets turn it into a race truck, better yet let's make it legal to race koh, so that's what I did. Cut and chopped all the suspension off, ripped the motor and trans out, gutted the interior and took all the wiring out.

I'll post this then start adding photos and descriptions of everything I've done so far. Hopefully once it's all done, this will be the baddest Bronco II ever.

So this would be about when almost everything was out of it and I started mocking up some stuff just to get an idea of how it would look. I'm going to have to dig for some of the older photos of this thing. I've miss placed a lot of photos.

Here we have the front end. Swapped in a full width hp dana 44, pushed it forward a couple of inches, had to cut a lot out of the engine cross member to get the pumpkin to fit at full bump. Arms are og long arms from before duff took over, chopped those down to a more ideal length, cant remember the exact length but somewhere around 6-7" longer then factory arms. Running 2.5 12" King coilovers in the front with provisions for a bypass. Firewalls on these things are very very different from side to side, driver side is about 2-2.5" further forward then the passenger side, which meant I had to cut a massive whole for the shock tower to fit. Coilovers are placed in a unique way, I've got them mounted just behind the radius of the housing and leaning as close to the firewall as I could get.

This is kind of funny and some people will know where this came from which is why its funny. First its an early bronco quarter guard, one of the first from duff actually. Two it came off our 69 Bronco, which has been on there for a very very long time. So I took them when we swapped to the new wild horses quarters. A little bit of beating to get the dents out and cutting off a little, and they fit lol. Was super surprised that they would match the dent line in the Bronco II. Just have to cut the bottom flare off of it and put flat plate down to the corner.

Now onto the rear suspension. Another first for a Bronco II as far as I'm aware. Its got a full width 89 F150 8.8 in it. Now I get this a lot, why would I put a full width 8.8 and not a 9 inch?!? Well I like being unique and doing stuff that isn't very common, plus its getting a custom full floater kit made for it, just making it more unique and stronger. Its all linked up with a custom 4 link trailing arm set up I designed and built. Coilovers for the rear as well, not mounted but they are King 2.5" 14", again also provisions for running a bypass. Here you get an idea of how far I pushed the rear end back and how much sheet metal had to be removed. Those are also just some 35" A/T used for mock up to give you size reference. At ride height its sitting at around 102-103", which is about 8-9" longer then factory.
