BBBB Rigs & Restoration – Friday, 6/12 – Fix Signs in the Forest & Learn About the OHV Program, USFS, and SoCal Mountains Foundation
Come join an organized rigs‑and‑restoration volunteer run on Friday, June 12, as part of the Big Bear Bronco Bash weekend. This is a low‑key, easy‑to‑moderate volunteer day focused on trail stewardship, not technical trail running.

What we’re doing
• We’ll head into the forest with the Southern California Mountains Foundation (SCMF) and US Forest Service (USFS) to fix and replace OHV signs, clear debris, and do light forest‑maintenance work.
• You’ll also get a chance to learn about the OHV program, how National Forests are managed, and how this kind of stewardship helps keep our trails open.

Where we’re going
We’ll start in the Big Bear / Holcomb Valley corridor and then caravan into the project area on legal, signed National Forest roads and trails, with no side‑hacking or cutting and running. The access is similar in vibe to the Holcomb Valley Historic/Scenic run, just swapped from “cruising” to “working the forest.”

What kind of rig is needed
• This is not a technical trail run. Stock or lightly built rigs with decent clearance are fine. There is no limit to the number of rigs joining us for this run.
• You do not need 37s, lockers, or rock‑crawling armor to participate and still get a ton out of the SCMF/USFS discussion.

When and where to meet
• Date: Friday, June 12, 2026
• Time: Meet‑up at 9:00 AM
• Location: Meet at the Big Bear Discovery Center (parking area near the visitor center). Address: 40971 North Shore Drive/Hwy 38, Fawnskin, CA 92333 Google Maps: https://maps.app.goo.gl/v3FDxsYbgHWcMvUE7

COMMS: GMRS/FRS Channel Primary: 16 Secondary:18 (for those of you with HAM radios that's Primary: 462.5750, Secondary: 462.6250)

If you’re new to the Bash or to this group, just show up with gloves and a willingness to help. Coffee and stories are highly encouraged after the work.
What to bring
• Work gloves and sturdy footwear
• Sunscreen, hat, and plenty of water
• Pack a lunch and snacks—there will not be any food stops out in the forest.
• Your Bronco, Jeep, or other 4x4 (or ride along with a friend if you don’t have a rig)

Why this run matters
By helping fix signs, clean up the forest, and talking directly with SCMF and USFS, you’re showing that the OHV community cares about keeping Southern California’s trails open and respected. Hope to see a good crew of rigs there on 6/12 Friday at 9:00 AM at the Big Bear Discovery Center to put in some work and keep our trails healthy for years to come.

If you would like to join us, please post your name and the kind of rig you have on this thread and we will add you to the list below.

  1. Mike Casares (OHV Program Manager)
  2. John Haghighi (OHV #007/USFS Volunteer )
  3. Dominic Carrozza (OHV Volunteer)
  4. Joerg Hallbauer (OHV Volunteer)
