BBBBXXIII - Hitting the Trails at Big Bear Bronco Bash

That's what I needed, to know what's open or closed and which way to go, thanks. I'll do whatever is the best route off the mountain. I have a San Bernardino 2016 OHV Guide/map and was going to highlight the route on that. I'll use your direction and map it out and we can set up the run for Sunday going down the mountain.

Best meeting place?
we still enter at Mill Creek?
For the trip down? I'd suggest using the Big Bear Civic Center parking lot. It's close to the Tulip Lane route to Mill Creek Rd then Clark's Grade, and there's plenty of space. There's a blurb about it with a Google Maps link on my DIY Run Leaders thread. Make sure to use the parking lot on the east side of the civic center.

Yeah, Google Maps isn't your best option for offroad mapping, that's for sure. OnX is way better for ride planning, and I can get you a discount code that will get you 30% off.

It's actually not Highland Avenue, it's on Greenspot Road in Highland. If you want to change the route even more for your return trip on Sunday, consider coming down Clark's then up Middle Control Road to Angelus Oaks, then through Thomas Hunting Grounds to hit the 38 just above Mentone/Yucaipa. It's too bad both Radford Truck Trail and Wildhorse Meadows are closed. If they weren't you could take an entirely different route than your up-route. Let me know if you'd like any help with routing any of these.
Is Middle Control rd. open to non local traffic yet? Last time I looked it was still closed to all but locals, or at least part of it was. https://www.fs.usda.gov/detail/sbnf/conditions/?cid=FSEPRD538928. WAY at the bottom it says closed to everyone but local residents.

Both Middle Control and Seven Oaks road are passable, if not technically designated as open. They had both back "open" fairly quickly after those storms. Perhaps they're keeping them officially closed just because they're working on a few culverts or guardrails or whatever. But they're not blocked off. Middle Control only had to be cleared at the bottom where it goes over the river. The rest of it, winding up the mountainside, was pretty much not affected, because the storms that caused the massive flow in the river bottom, mostly occurred miles upstream from there. Seven Oaks Road was fairly devastated from Glass Road to 1N09. But they had debris and logs pushed out of the way within days, and bypasses graded where the road had washed out. Since there are residences down there they had to get it opened back up fairly quickly. But there is probably still some ongoing road rebuilding going on down there, which they are probably able to do while keeping access open for residents.

Here's what I'm thinking for Thurs. I'd like to do either Delmar Mountain, and/or Upper Holcomb. I know that not everyone will be there on Thurs morning yet so I'm thinking of maybe doing one of those on Thurs morning, and then the other one on Thurs afternoon. Anyone interested? They are both pretty easy runs. You can see the descriptions here:

Jorge
i would like to join you on either one of those or both

We will be looking for trails for any time on Friday and Saturday, and then Overland Down the Mountain on Sunday morning. I was planning on Delamar Mountain Loop for either Friday or Saturday and am looking for anyone else that wants to do a beginner run on the other day (open to suggestions as long as its a beginner-level run), as well as anyone that is interested in doing Down the Mountain on Sunday morning. This will be our second time going and I have done Delamar Mountain and Down the Mountain before. I have the routes saved and can technically lead it, but would prefer to have some more experienced friends and/or a dedicated leader if possible. Hit me up if anyone's interested.

Hi Joerg
We will be in BB Wed thru Monday so a Thursday run is perfect for us. Thanks for organizing!

I actually I have two scheduled on Thurs. A short morning run that will get us back to Big Bear by lunch time, and then anther short afternoon run that should get us back in time for Taco's at Bash. Do you want to attend both, or just one?

If you’re still looking for another run idea. We’re interested in Burns Canyon (with no side loops) to go down to Pioneertown. Lunch maybe there. Not up for leading. More of a follower. Friday or Saturday.

Hey @JeffMcCabe there will probably be others just like you who would like to do a run like that. Why not just go ahead and start a thread here for it? Don't call yourself a run leader if you don't want to. It's an easy enough route it doesn't really even need a run leader. Just one person who knows the way so everyone else can follow. Just sort of a "hey let's all meet at the Brownie Lane parking lot and go run to Pioneertown on Saturday morning, who's up for it?"

I've got three in my group! Our first time at BBBB. We'll be there Friday morning and can join in on the Delamar Mountain Loop on Friday :)
Three Broncos, or 3 people? If you're interested in joining the Delmar Mountain run, just post your name(s) over on the thread for that run where you can find here: https://socalbroncos.com/forum/threads/bbbbxxiii-thursday-morning-easy-run-delmar-mountain.771/ and I'lladd you to the list.

Note that this is a short run in the morning and should get you back into Big Bear by lunch time. There's also a short afternoon run to Upper Holcomb Creek that should get you back in time for Tacos. https://socalbroncos.com/forum/thre...y-afternoon-easy-run-upper-holcomb-creek.772/. If you're interested in that run, you can post your name(s) on that thread and I'll add you to the list there.

Hey guys note that our Thursday night taco slingers are taking this year off. So you're on your own for Thursday night dinner but do join us for happy hour at HQ once you've got your dinner squared away! BTW the Mexican potluck on Friday night is still on :)

Ah, good to know! Gonna miss those Tocos!

Hell ya! Can’t wait! San Diego Broncos will be running Gold Mountain Friday day and Saturday night O-===-O under the lights. Happy to lead and help anyone that wants to join. Will add all details to the appropriate thread. Stoked to see old friends and meet new!

Prep:
Sounds awesome, how do we get more info or on a sign up

Coming up late Friday night for the first time. I am hoping to join in in a medium skill Saturday run. Can I join a group. I haven't been off-road in BB before. Also, would love to order tshirts if available ahead of time. Thanks! Can't wait!

Go to the BBBB thread list page (click here) and scroll down through the threads to find all of the runs that have been publicly posted so far. T-shirts were sold by pre-order, but the order window is closed. See Steffie at the Bash to see if there are any overruns available in your size.
