BBBBXXIII - Friday Burns Canyon MEDIUM Run

Hey guys I asked Dusty if there was a medium run I could lead for Friday and he suggested this Burns Canyon Medium route. Since I'm already doing the Burns Canyon Easy run to Pioneertown on Saturday this will be a nice opportunity to see some of the same area but with a slightly more challenging route. Here's what the trail description says: This route will string together several shorter, little-traveled routes into one big adventure with up to medium difficulty in some places. The route will begin at easy Balky Horse Canyon (Trail Info) then continue on through Broom Flat on 2N01 to 2N61Y through Round Valley Trail (Trail Info). Then it's back up Burns Canyon Road to the short but fun Rattler Loop (Trail Info) before heading back to Big Bear via Burns Canyon 2N02 to Baldwin Lake. The route is mostly easy but does have some rocky, crawly sections that bump the overall difficulty rating up to medium.
  • DATE & TIME: Friday, June 7, 9:00 AM (this is the departure time from the staging area)
  • TRAIL RATING: Medium
  • TRAILS: Balky Horse Canyon, part of 2N01 Broom Flats, 2N61Y Round Valley, Rattler Loop and parts of 2N02 for the return
  • STAGING LOCATION: Journey Church, located at Highway 38 and Erwin Ranch Road, southeast of Big Bear City. Use the dirt area between the parking lot and the highway, NOT the church's paved parking lot. Google Maps LINK
  • MAX VEHICLES: 20
  • COMMS: TBD probably a race/ham frequency since that's what I have, maybe one of the So Cal Broncos freq's (see here)
NOTE that the staging location is a few miles outside of town, so please map it ahead of time and allow plenty of time to get there from wherever you are staying, in time for the run. Please go ahead and AIR DOWN at the staging area (arrive there with enough time to do so). There will be a couple of miles of paved highway before we get to the turnoff on to dirt, but there isn't enough area at the turnoff for all of us to safely pause there to air down. So just do it at the staging area before we leave. Make sure to gas up before you come to the staging area, bring a lunch, plenty of water, etc.

UPDATE: I have added the onx files for the run below. I have broken it into three sections, Part1, Tip Top mountain, and Part 2. I did so because dependent on the time it takes us to complete part 1, will determine if we have time/ if you guys want to go up to Tip Top mountain.

Thanks @Chris at Lobo Off-Road for leading this run! Like I mentioned to you I led a run on this route last year and it was a great time. I'll get you an ONX file for it. If anyone wants to see some of the shots from last year on this run they're in This Folder on my SmugMug account (Some of those shots are courtesy of @KermitBronco).
