A Few Pics From Our 4,000-Mile Summer Road Trip

@Steffiesharp and I recently took our summer road trip in the Bronco and had a blast. We spent 2 weeks going through 13 states and covered 4,190 miles. We left Southern California and spent a couple days at Lake Mohave with friends over 4th of July, then continued on through AZ, NM, TX, OK, KS and into Missouri where we spent a few days with family. Then it was up through Iowa, across Nebraska to Wyoming for a few days in the Cody and Yellowstone NP area. Then back home through Montana, Idaho and Nevada to California.

We camped out of the Bronco a few times, stayed with friends or family a few times, and stayed in a couple of motels. Biggest expense was gas but it was much cheaper the further you get from California.

The Bronco once again performed flawlessly. We've taken several long road trips in it and find it comfortable and adaptable to whatever we're doing. For reference its a '21 Base 2-Door non-Squatch, 2.3L/7-speed MT. Its on ICON EXP shocks and Nitto 35's. We pulled the rear seats out for this trip to make room for more gear. Our camping setup was just a $45 ground tent, air mattress and sleeping bags.

Here are a few more of our pics from the trip. Sorry no wheeling pics, we pretty much stuck to roads and highways on this one :) And I'll spare you guys all the non-Bronco pics from the trip LOL.

Thanks for checking them out :)

Oh yes! That's a really neat drive, I like that area a lot. For a while I debated trying to buy that cinder-block building and surrounding property that's North of the highway and *just* on the Nevada side of the line up there. It's too dilapidated to consider it now, but then it would have made a great NV address free of KA's jack-booted thuggery.

Did you visit "Yeller" while in OK?
The pics of the tent, is that a campground or just a good spot y'all found to bivouac camp?
Did you find Buffalo to be really, really, really dumb as I have? Big brutes, but dumber than cattle, and that's saying something!

I think I had a similar thought as we passed that last abandoned place before the California border :)

Didn't visit Yeller but we had a small adventure driving through Oklahoma. Steffie wanted some good ol' Oklahoma watermelon so I thought I'd do her one better and looked up the Watermelon Capital of Oklahoma. It was a couple hours out of our way but a pleasant drive through the backcountry. When we got there we stopped at the first watermelon stand and they were sold out, pointed us down the road to the next place. We get there and they had a bunch of them but they didn't look like the big, oval-shaped stripers I'd always associated with Oklahoma watermelons. These were all perfectly round and looked like the common seedless ones that have become the scourge of supermarkets in recent years. So I asked the clerk where these came from and he said Georgia, because the Oklahoma watermelons were still a month away from harvest. So we went ahead and bought the grocery store melon and continued on our way LOL.

The tent camping pics are from the Oliver Reservoir campground in western Nebraska, just inside the state line from Pine Bluffs, Wyoming. We also camped at Buffalo Bill Reservoir just outside of Cody. On the way east we had intended to camp at a small reservoir outside of Tucumcari but a thunderstorm chased us on over to Amarillo where we got a cheap motel for the night. Those camping pics above were from sunset. Here's a sunrise pic from the next morning :)

Yes the buffalo were quite oblivious to the congestion they were creating but neither we nor anyone else there seemed to mind. Getting in a "Buffalo jam" was one of the highlights of the trip! We loved seeing so many of them. Here's a couple more pics :)

Fantastic pictures! There's just so much of the US to see, and so little time to see it.
