... and so it begins ...

OK, next step, I got rid of those tie rods that are "brittle as an old dry twig"! I installed the Ford Performance Severe Duty Steering Upgrade Kit. Our, rather, I should say that I had it installed by Galpin Autosports who did a fantastic job! The description says: "Featuring a higher...

Big Bear Bronco Bash XXIV June 5-8, 2025

OK, I have #1 and #2 done. #3 is actually done, but I'm going to do a couple of upgrades before Bash, so I guess technically #3 is a partial.

BBBBXXIV - Hitting the Trails at Big Bear Bronco Bash

Lucia and I will be coming up on Wed. night (probably late). We did the same thing last year, and I led two short easy "warmup" runs. One on Thurs. morning, and one on Thurs. afternoon. I was a litle surprised at how many people actually attended the morning run! But the afternoon run was...

Gate Access updates for Maple Springs

There's no official opening date right now. Lots of rumors about it reopening at different times. You might want to call the Trabuco Ranger District at (951) 736-1811 and talk to the Ranger and see what they have to say about it.

Welcome to the herd! Even though I'm still a rookie (this will only be my 4th Bash), Bash is a ton of fun, but can be a little confusing for those that are new in terms of runs, and when and where to go, etc. Feel free to reach out to me if you need some help, have any questions, etc.

CANCELED: SCEB Inaugural Point to Point (aka "Overland") Run planning

That's not a problem. Just import them into OnX (add them to a folder during import), and then share that folder. There's a really good video that covers all the features of OnX available here: he talks about folder sharing at around the 32:30 mark or thereabouts.

CANCELED: SCEB Inaugural Point to Point (aka "Overland") Run planning

Folks, For those that are not aware, rather than trading .GPX files you can share routes between folks directly from OnX. You can even allow the other people who you've shared with to change the route. Even better you can share a folder that has routes, waypoints, etc. in it so that everyone...

Big Bear Bronco Bash XXIV June 5-8, 2025

Time to start planning some runs! The good news is that this year I can attend all 4 days! the kinda bad news is that my back is a mess right now, but I'm working on getting it fixed and should be in good shape by June.

A lot of the Baofeng UV-5 based radios are dual band. Technically those are Ham radios and shouldn’t be used on GMRS because they aren’t Part 95 certified. But if they are locked most of them are easy to unlock. They do make some radios that are Part 95 and locked to GMRS. The popular Midland...

    Event freq(s)?

Yeah, I love that about standards! And that’s why I went with all dual band radios. I have some HTs that are dual band I can lend out as well. For 2M SCB I show the following: SCB-GEN 146.5350 SCB-1 146.4050 SCB-2 146.4300 SCB-3 146.4600 SCB-4 146.5000

Quick update, it looks like the Calico Peak one is probably the best choice for the Calico Mtns trail runs. https://www.repeaterbook.com/gmrs/details.php?state_id=06&ID=1138

    Event freq(s)?

I usually do a poll at the drivers meeting to see what kind of radios everyone has. Frankly speaking, a lot of the 6G folks only have GRMS radios, so that's when we've used. I usually use one of the 16+ channels. I know those are also the repeater freqs so I try to pick one that doesn't have...

Count me in for Afton Canyon, just let me know where and when to meet up for that one. I’m also interested in a non-carnage run on Sat.

We have a few members from the Santa Clarita Valley. BTW, for you folks in Awsometown, that includes you as well! LOL. We should at least do a meetup soon. Maybe at one of the brewery's we have around here.
