BBBB XXV - Sunday - Easy - Off the mountain easy run via Wildhorse Meadow

I'll be leading a run on Sunday of Big Bear Bronco Bash, and invite anyone who's interested to join me. For those who would like to get in just a little more dirt on your way down off the mountain, this might be the run for you! That part of the mountain has been hit pretty hard by the fires, and so a lot of the trails, like Clarks Grade, are currently closed. So, I'm going to have to figure out exactly which trails are open, and determine a nice, scenic route down the mountain. This might have to be a mix of dirt and pavement. As of right now, it's looking like Wildhorse Medow is our best choice. Note that we are saying at 10 AM, giving everyone enough time to deal with their morning hangover after the big party on Sat. night. Bring some lunch or a snack, I'm planning to make a stop somewhere along Wildhorse Medow for s snack/lunch so if you want you might consider brining something.

Yoerg! Sounds great. Can you add two of us to Sunday's Down-The-Mountain run? Looking forward to it, man.

FYI, I was up on skyline dr last week and the gate for clarks grade was open
Thanks for letting me know! Unfortunately, that doesn't mean that the trail is officially open. We've had a lot of people cutting the locks recently... I guess I should follow my own advice and check with Mr. Ranger on the official word. I know that they have been working hard to get as many open as they can, so, fingers crossed! That would definately be my first choice!

BTW, according to Forest Order 05-12-00-26-03 which runs from Feb 11 2026 to Sept. 30 2026 it's still officially closed. There's actually LONG list on the Line Fire Closure list.

Based on that list, Wildhourse Meadow seems to be open, and I know that they were working on it a couple of weeks ago to get it ready. So right now, that's looking like out most likely avenue of escape. :D

Maybe consider Bailey Canyon if Wildhorse is still closed. It's a good piece of pavement just to get to it, but once you're down, you're already in San Bernardino, at the freeway. You could throw in Tunnel 2 to Miller Canyon to trade some of that pavement for dirt.

I'm going to tentatively pick up a spot for this, sounds like a fun way to end the weekend! Of course if something changes I'll let you know right away.

Really? That would suck. Let me call and see what’s going on.
OK, I had some conversations, and as far as anyone knows those gates shouldn't be locked as there is no current FO covering that trail. I think we should be OK, but I'm continuing to check things out to verify.
