CANCELED: SCEB Inaugural Point to Point (aka "Overland") Run planning

I know that there was more interest than what I'm seeing in responses to this thread. I can't access FB from work and rarely get time from home, so no idea what is going on over there.

With OnX I've no idea why it does whatever it does.

We can run those or we can scrap those and build something else, or we can use all or part of those. I was just throwing something up on the wall to have something to point at and talk about.

I was hoping to hold this first one to just a weekend. Meet up Friday evening/night and be done sometime mid-ish afternoon on Sunday. My first such trip was a full week where we covered DVNP on a semi-diagonal dirt roads path, transitioned by dirt, pavement, & fwy to the Avi, and then ran the Mojave Trail. It was a lot! If I hadn't already had a fair amount of experience with long (500+ miles) solo drives it would have done me in. That's what is influencing my trying to keep this first one short and manageable by everyone.

I think once we have a route we'll need to take a poll or something to log all of the interested parties. So far I think we're at 4 rigs? If we're going to limit this to 6 that leaves a couple openings. If I haven't missed someone......
Folks, For those that are not aware, rather than trading .GPX files you can share routes between folks directly from OnX. You can even allow the other people who you've shared with to change the route. Even better you can share a folder that has routes, waypoints, etc. in it so that everyone is on the same page. When you share a folder, the person gets a link, and once they click on that link that folder will appear in their "My Contents" section of OnX. All updates made by one person will be reflected automatically on everyone else's version of the folder.

That sounds very handy, I will need to look into this. Except that some of my files were created in Gaia.

That's not a problem. Just import them into OnX (add them to a folder during import), and then share that folder.

There's a really good video that covers all the features of OnX available here:
he talks about folder sharing at around the 32:30 mark or thereabouts.

My availability is pretty flexible. I have every other Friday off. So...the following weekends are good for me: March 28th then April 11th, 25th, etc. I'm assuming that the weekend of the 14th isn't really shaping up. Was there any more interest on FB? I don't have FB.

I have it, but work just recently blocked the entire domain, so can only access it at home.

I've had sudden health issue crop up, not sure what my availability is going to be. Right now going into the wild with a known kidney stone is not a good idea. Should know more on Thursday.

Oooof...yeah....nope, not a good plan. Ok, will wait to hear from you on Thursday. Wish you the best.

Doc gave me a formula of juices to drink hoping that it will dissolve the stone. That and/or wait for it to move to where they can get to it with some vise-grips or the sound blaster. Seeking a 2nd opinion. Needless to say I'm not too excited to go into BFE like this.

SO, if this is going to happen this Spring we likely need someone to step up and take the lead.

Been there with three er visits and finally lithotripsy. Disabling pain when it hits which is why if you have that history you are disqualified from becoming a military pilot. If your stone is too large to pass I wouldn’t be farther than 10 minute drive from er until it is dealt with. Also want to have calcium checked. If high then PTH test can rule out parathyroid adenoma.

Had one 26 years ago that presented all of the classic symptoms. Went from sleeping to screaming in agony in 3.2 micro-seconds, etc. High oxalic acid intake at the time was likely the cause then.
This one, no idea it was there. Was found in a CT scan for something else. Litho isn't an option until it moves, too much soft tissue in the way. Urologist already took me off the calcium containing BP med thinking that it may be the instigator.

Laser is the other option that can snake up in tight spaces and zap them. Just depends on size. Mine was 6 mm and too large to pass.

OK, I 'm not fixed or cured or whatever, but the Doc isn't really pursuing it either. I've posted on the FB stream about it I'm hoping for more participation. SO, let's re-start this and let's do it from zero. Where and when? Do I need to just pick a date and go from there? Shall we simply do the Mojave Road or find something else? Keep in mind that 2 days on the MR is a fast clip, 3 days is a better plan.

I won’t make the spring. I need to do a complete Painless rewire as soon as the contractor finishes our flooded kitchen damage and moves the stuff outta my garage. I would be interested in Mojave (in the fall) or something similar to what Lars and Todd posted on that overlanding site.

Oh yeah.... Dust to Snow was one of the more epic NV trips. I was in Patch. You'll see it in some of the pictures, a multi-colored '84 Xcab yota (hence it's name) with a high top shell on it. There's some good camp-fire stories from that one.

I could do a 3-day on Mojave if that's more practical. I'm available most of the weekends between now and BBBB except May 17th (mother's day weekend, and the 24 (the wife's birthday).
