BBBBXXIII - Thursday Run to Bronco Knoll

Dusty

I Started This Gangsta Shit
So Cal Broncos OG
I'm setting this one up for Randy @Bukin'eer who has volunteered to lead a run to Bronco Knoll on Thursday during Big Bear Bronco Bash XXIII. This should be a fairly easy run although the final climb up Bronco Knoll can be a little rocky depending on the route he takes up the knoll. At any rate, ANY stock Bronco can make it but bone stock 6G Base models on the factory 30" tires may drag the rear lower shock mounts (personally verified!). Randy is a desert racer so expect him to keep up a brisk pace. He wants to meet at the in time to leave by 9:00 AM.

  • DATE & TIME: Thursday, June 6, 9:00 AM (this is the departure time from the staging area)
  • TRAIL RATING: Easy and fast-paced (with a final rocky climb)
  • TRAILS: Paved highways down to the desert, then desert back-country roads to Bronco Knoll
  • STAGING LOCATION: VONS supermarket parking lot on Big Bear Blvd. Please use the area farthest from storefronts. Google Maps LINK
  • MAX VEHICLES: no max
  • COMMS: TBD probably a race/ham frequency since that's what Randy uses in racing.

I won't bother setting up a list here that Randy will have to update. But PLEASE post below if you'd like to join in on this run, so Randy can know how many to expect. Thanks Randy for leading a run!

It will be a fun trip. We're going to take a medium route up the hill to the Knoll from the east side and also include the Desert Mermaid on the way and Hercules Finger later in our adventure route, with a final stop at Café 247 for lunch before heading back up the hill. You can bring your own and eat it there if you like, or head back to BB on your own from there since it's right on the CA-18.
It will be close to 100 miles round trip and close to 100 °F in the desert, so please be prepared. I estimate we will be back in BB between 2 & 3

I hope to join ya Randy as I've never gotten there and I live in Big Bear, I do have a guy coming to service our Generac generator at 9:00 so IF I can get the wife up early enough to deal with the service guy I'll be there , I might hook up at the Mormon Church on 18 and Paradise Rd

Randy,

Do you want us to be aired down by 9 ready to go? Or will we be cruising to the trail for a bit before airing down?

Thanks!

Hey everyone WE WANT YOUR PHOTOS from this run! I maintain a massive repository of photos from So Cal Broncos runs and events stretching back to 2002. I've just created the various galleries for Big Bear Bronco Bash XXIII in my SmugMug account, where you can upload your photos for everyone to see, and where they will be preserved in our SCB photo archive indefinitely. You may have already posted them to Facebook or elsewhere, which is great, but here they will have a permanent home that's easy to find and enjoy by everyone for years to come, rather than quickly falling off everyone's social media news feed to never be seen again. As an added bonus, these collections also feed into our So Cal Broncos social media postings as well as trail-specific photo galleries on the SCB website. So please consider adding yours to the collection(s). Please upload your original photos in their original resolution (preferably not scaled down due to uploading then re-downloading from Facebook or IG), and preferably without any editing or filters. Just go to the gallery for this run at the following link, and look for the upload link in the gallery description to add your own photos. Myself and So Cal Broncos thank you! The gallery this run is at https://dustysharp.smugmug.com/So-Cal-Broncos/2024/Big-bear-Bronco-Bash-XXIII/BBBBXXIII-Bronco-Knoll
