BBBBXXIII - NEW Saturday Easy run Rattlesnake Canyon to Burns Cyn

TFreeSD

Small Member

I've noticed there are just a couple Saturday runs posted, and those are getting crowded. I'll offer another option.
Rattlesnake Canyon starts at desert level in Johnson Valley, follows a sandy desert wash with a few rock obstacles, and climbs into the Big Bear mountains where it intersects with the popular Burns Canyon trail.

Thanks for leading a run @TFreeSD! Note that there is already a group staging at the Brownie Lane parking lot for an 8:00 departure. As runs usually leave late they will still be there as people are arriving for your run, which can cause some confusion. I suggest using one of our other staging locations that isn't being used yet. The parking lot of the Big Bear Convention Center would be a great alternative. Just a suggestion.

Thanks for the heads up on that Dusty! I'll follow your suggestion.

I have 2 questions: 1. is this run still on? and 2. What time and where does the run end? (We need to be home in S. OC by 3 pm).

@rdhutch - yes the run is on. How long it takes and what else we decide to connect to is up for group discussion, since this group may remain quite small.
If you're comfortable with it, you could join the main part of run and then decide to split off and head home. Check out this picture....

It takes about 2 hours to run Rattlesnake Canyon waypoints 1-7. You may exit Northwest towards Big Bear (green line), or exit Southeast towards Pioneertown and Yucca Valley (other green line). The Green trail is called Burns Canyon, and it is a tame, easy trail. There will be a lot of people on it.
Staging area meetup at 8:30am. 45 minute highway drive to trailhead. Then we need to air down. Leaving margin for any delays....by 10am we should be at Waypoint 1 and already aired down. We expect to reach waypoint 7 around 12pm. ~1pm you can be back to a highway to head home. Hopefully gets you home by 3. It could be a little tight for you.....it's your call...

Hey l will join this one since I haven’t done Rattle Snake, I was going to propose doing the 3N16 on Saturday, but I think for those that want to continue to explore I am happy to extend after this for anyone that is up for it, this will take you through the entire Holcomb Valley to Green Valley Lake and it’s very easy, we would drive 2 miles from the end of Burns canyons to get on the 3N16. Very scenic back there and recommended for those that want an easy drive through the valley.

I'll add you to the group. And thanks for your offer to extend. I'm probably down for more wheeling as time permits.
