The Roadless Rule Rescission

Since 2001, The BlueRibbon Coalition, along with various states, have been fighting the implementation of the Roadless Rule— one of the last outgoing actions by the Clinton Administration at the request of anti-access organizations. It essentially designated 59 million acres of national forests as de facto wilderness through a regulation instead of an act of Congress…

While the rule locked out ⅓ of our forests to most recreation, more importantly, it hampered the ability for the U.S. Forest Service to sustain the health and diversity of the nation’s forests and grasslands. Roads allow recreationists to explore their public lands, brush to be cleared, and new wildfires to be fought more effectively.

Without the ability to improve or create routes through remote sections of our forests, the Roadless Rule contributed to the spread and destruction of catastrophic wildfires since it was enacted 24 years ago. Of the 58.5 million acres covered under the Rule, 28 million acres are in areas at high or very high risk of wildfire according to the USDA. The Roadless Rule restrictions have contributed to the 36 million acres of forest that have burned since the Rule was adopted, according to the American Forest Resource Council.

After 24 years of challenges, we just scored a major win. But the fight is not over. We need your help to push the rescission across the finish line. Fill out the form to add your support of the rescission and add your own comments. Comments are due September 19th!

I signed yesterday! After speaking with firefighters from the #LineFire, their hands are tied, and they are unable to do many things that could help the forest. Hopefully, this gets rescinded.

🙌 Absolutely! The ones fighting these fires need all the help they can get, and the powers that be need to be checked hard! My beloved Sierra NF is one of the most poorly 'managed' around, and there won't be much of it left if actions are not taken. 🤝

Cutting the budget of the Forest Service isn't helping either. I talked with the Ranger up in Big Bear, and they are SO short handed that a lot of things they even COULD do they don't have the resources to do.

All signs point to typical government mismanagement of funds, labor, etc. They can pay a gal to count toads 24/7-365 but they cant clear fuels... This roadless act has hampered actual forest management (preservation) by not allowing access. I am all for access to my public lands for all, including those who rely on vehicular transportation to enjoy said forests, while they last.
