Hey guys I'm starting to bring together some of the run plans for Big Bear Bronco Bash XXII and one of the things I want to offer is something we've never done before, but it needs a run leader, so I'm looking for a volunteer to take it up. This run would be on Friday, June 9th, for those who will be heading up to Bronco Bash on that day and would like to take a scenic overland route rather than highways to get there. I will have already been up there, plus I'll be leading some other run that day, so I can't lead this one myself even though I think it will be a lot of fun.
The run would start at the bottom of the hill in Highland, and string together about 50 miles of dirt roads as it winds its way up into the mountains, ending at BBBB headquarters in Big Bear. Ideally it would leave the staging area at 9:00 AM, and get into Big Bear sometime in the early to mid afternoon, with plenty of time for stops along the way. I already have the route planned out and can provide GPX or waypoints or whatever you need. I would suggest capping participation at 20 vehicles.
If we get a volunteer to lead it, I'll put it on the schedule and set up a signup sheet on our forum so we can stick to that 20-rig cap. This would be open to all years Broncos (as all of our runs are). The route is considered "easy" and should be suitable for any year or model of Bronco in good working order, even bone stock ones with no lockers. Run leader must have a 2-way radio and at least some off-road experience. You need not have run this route before if you have a good GPS app or device and know how to use it, as I will provide a GPX route that you can load into ONX or Gaia or whatever.
The road closure issue is something we're monitoring but we'll go ahead and set this up assuming we won't be hindered from access to these roads. I will try to get up there and pre-run the route sometime before the Bash to verify everything. Or if whoever volunteers to lead it wants to pre-run that would be cool too.
So send me a PM if you're interested in leading it. If you are a vendor rep and want to lead it on behalf of your company that's cool too, as long as it's open to any So Cal Broncos member regardless of whether they currently run your parts. And I would prefer that this and any of our other runs only be promoted here in our So Cal Broncos groups. Big Bear Bronco Bash is an event for SO CAL BRONCOS members, but anyone with a Bronco in Southern California is welcome to join SCB. I'll talk about this more later, but I would prefer not to have our run details broadcast on outside channels and have a bunch of folks showing up clueless about what Big Bear Bronco Bash and So Cal Broncos is all about. They need to join this group and the discussions that will happen here leading up to BBBB, to know what's going on and how to best enjoy it.
Thanks everyone!
