SCEB Inaugural Point to Point (aka "Overland") Run planning

It's just New Age-y stuff. Crystals, magic, magnetic anomalies, extraterrestrials, and what-not. LOL! People are strange, but sometimes they do or make cool things. Not that you can get a good look at it from the fence, but a wood building built with no metal fasteners in it is rather intriguing.

So here's a rabbit hole of epic proportions: https://www.atlasobscura.com/things-to-do/california Can likely find a page on all of the above spots that I listed, along with another 1,473 more spots, just in CA!

Mostly to kick-start this I'm going to propose this sequence of routes. They start at the Integratron and end at Afton Cyn Rd. & I-15. The route does have pavement in the mix. The first day is about 70 miles and the second day is about 54 miles.
If we cut off the Desert Megaphone and Afton then the area that Felix 808 brought up can be included while keeping the days short enough. Doing so revises where the Saturday overnight spot will be. We'd need to look at that as I'm not sure where that can be.

Strange thing, when I try to import leg 2 into to OnX, it uploads as leg 2 then when finished changes into leg 3

Are we looking at 2 or 3 days? If the dates work I'm in & we don't have to run my suggestion if the other areas seem to flow better 🤠

With OnX I've no idea why it does whatever it does.

We can run those or we can scrap those and build something else, or we can use all or part of those. I was just throwing something up on the wall to have something to point at and talk about.

I was hoping to hold this first one to just a weekend. Meet up Friday evening/night and be done sometime mid-ish afternoon on Sunday. My first such trip was a full week where we covered DVNP on a semi-diagonal dirt roads path, transitioned by dirt, pavement, & fwy to the Avi, and then ran the Mojave Trail. It was a lot! If I hadn't already had a fair amount of experience with long (500+ miles) solo drives it would have done me in. That's what is influencing my trying to keep this first one short and manageable by everyone.

I think once we have a route we'll need to take a poll or something to log all of the interested parties. So far I think we're at 4 rigs? If we're going to limit this to 6 that leaves a couple openings. If I haven't missed someone......

That sounds good being the first time out with each other, kind of like a check flight/ shake down run. I was struggling trying to put a long route together in CA with everything catching on fire or the fear there of to be honest. I know we've been looking at Mojave and several dessert areas, but another area we could piece a number of trails together for a 2 day trip is around the Silverwood Lake area. Run Cleghorn, to North Spur, Baily Canyon, Cloud Land then Pilot Rock. Very scenic with a lot of Silverwood Lake over looks along the way. I would normally say Big Bear as well but we will be up there for the Bash soon enough.

I haven't done any real point to point overland stuff but have done long drives to trails across state lines & having trips over multiple days. Camping has never been an issue, but I am going to try out something new this time and 2 days won't be bad even if it goes completely south
Mid March is going to be my cutoff as life will become plenty busy so hopefully we can put something together. I should be good for anything you / the interested parties come up with 🤠.

@Buckin-A, looks like out schedules are 180 out of phase. I'm off every other Friday but work the 14th
I would prefer a Friday Sat vice a Sat Sun as it gives a recovery day before heading back to work. I try to keep Sundays Church & family's days if I'm not on an extended trip. I don't mind taking a vacation day or 2 if I can get them off to avoid running Sundays 🤠

I have every other Friday off too! Seems it's the opposite of yours. No worries, I can take a Friday off pretty easily.

How about the those you lurking? Does any particular weekend work better? I am cleared for Mar 15-16 and can be at the rallying point by sometime the eve of Mar 14. Now that SWMBO has blessed it I can change it, but it's better if I don't.

For most that would require taking a day off of work, which may or may not be a problem. We need to hear from all interested folks!

Don't worry about it. It's looking like I have a conflict anyway. Just got notified today :(.

I'll look for you at BBBB if you're going. We'll be up Thurs night - Sat Night 🤠

I'm good with meeting up the evening of the 14th and going through until Sunday eve.

FWIW I like to finish up by noon or early afternoon to allow daylight driving to get back to home.

At this point I'm thinking that we run with the 4 legs posted above.

There's a Mobil station & pizza place (http://www.fivedollarpizzaplace.com/) on 247/Old Woman Springs Rd. (282 Old Woman Springs Rd, Yucca Valley, CA 92284) that we could possibly use as the meeting spot.

If we start on a Friday evening then we need to find a place to camp or something near the start. The best place that I know of in that area for that is at Giant Rock. Which is why I wanted to hear from those interested in going.

Do we simply say "Meet up at Giant Rock the evening of Mar 14th"?

Well that's a fly in the ointment for sue!

The Warn M8 on the front of Snowball came from the first or second of that swap-meet.

Absolutely, as Mojave rd. has been on my list for years now. Let me know if any other dates would work, If not I will most likely have to pass this time. I attended Curt's swap-meet back in '03 for the first time when it was at California Speedway, and scored an entire fiberglass front end kit, bolt on spare tire carrier/spare for my first truck, a 2wd single cab long bed '91 Ranger, and transformed it into a "pre-runner" later that afternoon!
