Drilling hole in transmissions pan for temp sensor

Looking for help, I have to drill a hole in the transmission pan to install a temp.sensor. I have been trying to look for one already done but have not been able to find one, yet. is there anyone around the LA/OC area that has done this before that would be willing/able to help? I can come out to you. Obviously, I would have to remove the pan for this procedure and replace the gasket. While it's open is there anything else recommended to change? What is the best gasket to get?

Thank you in advance for your time/help,

Sonny

Those are nice, but out of my price range right now. But again, I also dont know how much to expect having a hole drilled out for it would cost either. Is there a pro/con of having a hole drilled vs the pan already having one?

What gauge wire are you running from the gauge to the sensor? Assuming that would be the same gauge wire to the water/oil sensor?

Thank you in advance for your time/help,

I'm waiting until I'm closer to doing the trans service before buying a pan for it. The pan that I want is just over $400......

Typically you can't just tap the stock oil pan for the sender. You need to weld on a threaded boss. Also need to look at what's inside and where, and again out the outside to determine where the sender should be put.

I thought I read that was possible (to drill into the stock pan for the sensor)but it wouldn't be the first time I was wrong, maybe they were talking about something else.

Unless I'm mistaken the stock pan is sheet metal and doesn't have the thickness required for pipe threads to seal. Even the cast aluminum pans really need to have a boss cast into them for this, their normal wall thickness is marginal.

Welding a bung on isn't too big of a deal. There are even things called "weld bungs" made to do this that a welder local to you could weld to your pan. I'd go with one of these: https://www.mcmaster.com/12555K79/
