BBBBXXIV DIY Easy Run - Delamar Mountain & Upper Holcomb Creek

I Started This Gangsta Shit
So Cal Broncos OG
I'm providing this information for those who would like to run an easy/scenic trail at Big Bear Bronco Bash, but have not been able to find an established run to join. This would be considered a "DIY" run, as it's not currently on the schedule. But if anyone wants to volunteer to lead it and create a scheduled run post to invite others to it, feel free to use this information. Otherwise, this route can be run at any time by anyone. It is safe enough to run it alone, but as always I recommend at least groups of two just in case you have issues.

Delamar Mountain to Upper Holcomb Creek is an easy, scenic run through the forest north of Big Bear Lake. I'm calling it Easy+ because there several short, lightly technical sections that any stock 4WD vehicle should be able to make in 2WD but you should have 4WD just in case. The route starts at the Big Bear Discovery Center, heads up Polique Canyon, then circles Delamar Mountain, nearly circumnavigating it. Next it crosses Holcomb Valley, up a short rocky climb then descends upper Holcomb Creek (this isn't the hard part of Holcomb Creek you've heard about). The route ends at the Fawnskin Fire Station. Here are some map and navigation resources for this route:

If anyone needs any additional information or has questions about running this route, feel free to ask! If you'd like to try to find friends to run this trail with, post up below. If you'd like to lead an organized run and put it on the schedule, see This Post for info, I'm sure it will be appreciated!

Here's a view of Big Bear Lake from the Blue Quartz section of Delamar Mountain (part of this route):

I'll take this one @Dusty, but if you don't mind, I might make a little tweak to the route and add The Squeeze so that would bump up that difficultly a little, at least for that part of it.

Joerg feel free to modify it however you'd like, and re-use any of the resources you see here. But go ahead and start a new thread as usual, for your specific run with whatever route adjustments rules, signup list or whatever you'd like. And we'll leave this one in place for anyone who wants to do it DIY on a different day or time. I'd offer to help you set up the altered route maps but I know you're more then capable :) Once you've done that, I'll add a note to the this post that a similar route is being offered, with a link over to your run post.

I did this route last year on a Sat, it got very busy and at one point had 25 rigs each way passing on a narrow corner. The squeeze went late into the day but I bailed just before that and made an exit at Polique Canyon. I’d try this again if it ends up on Friday.

How late into the day? Did you bail before the squeeze?

I peeled off around 3pm when my caffeine addiction headache hit. Yes, just before the squeeze.
OK< so we will skip The Squeeze, but I'm going to add in a fun little bit that will stretch this just a little past a 2 or 3 depending on how torn up the trail is. But I promise, I will get you back in plenty of time for happy hour at the Moose.

I just posted a slight variation of this run for Friday. The only thing I added was 3N83 (Upper Holcomb Rd) which will add an hour, at the most. You can find it here. I picked Friday to avoid some of the traffic that we can get on some of these trails. I hope it works!
